Bach to Rock announces NEW offerings, as well as days and times for its mainstay programs!

image001Bach to Rock, America’s Music School in Wellesley is pleased to announce NEW offerings, along with additional days and times for its mainstay programs!

Learn the basics of piano, drums and guitar in an excellent introductory course to playing music. “101” will prepare you for more serious private study as well as playing in a band/ensemble. Most importantly, students will begin to develop the skill of playing music with their peers which provides a lifelong benefit.

Rock n Roll: A new high-energy and stimulating music and movement class for toddlers and their grown-up.  Each class contains a variety of music and movement based activities.

Rock City: Through dynamic musical and movement-based activities, exposure to live instruments and musically inspired story-time, your budding toddler will gradually develop the skills needed to read music, play simple rhythms and develop motor control skills.

Kids n Keys: This class introduces children from ages 5-7 to the fundamentals of music and piano playing in a fun group-setting. In three 8-lesson segments students will encounter the concepts, symbols, and sounds that form the basis of music literacy.

Inspired by the television sensation, this premier choral ensemble offers a dynamic atmosphere for male and female students to unlock their inner star! Each student will explore fun vocal exercises, singing in harmony, and expressive choreography while performing arrangements of popular songs.

The special excitement about our music programs come from students playing together in bands. Our professional band coaches work closely with students to prepare for quarterly performances. At B2R, students are placed in compatible bands according to their age and ability. Like playing in a sports league, belonging to a band supports teamwork and positive social interaction. Join us at Bach to Rock for a “Rock Band” Open House on Thursday, September 14 from 2-4pm.

Bach to Rock is located at the Shops at Linden Square, 200A Linden Street, in Wellesley. Located directly across from the CVS drive-thru and can be reached at 781-943-3944 or at Wellesley@BachtoRock.com. For class schedules and booking, visit Wellesley.B2RMusic.com.

Six-year-old George O’Rourke of Acton Donates the Contents of his Giving Jar to The Discovery Museums

George O’Rourke of Acton, age 6, stopped by The Discovery Museums recently to donate to the museum’s Ready, Set, Build! campaign for completion of the new Discovery Museum, opening December 2017.

George has been saving a portion of his allowance in his Giving Jar for just over a year or, as he put it, “about 1,000 or 20 years.” The cash has built up, and his parents, Sarah and Larry O’Rourke, have been asking George where he would like to donate his money, giving him gentle reminders and suggestions about local non-profits. But, nothing seemed to resonate with George.

The O’Rourke family have been museum members since 2012 and are frequent visitors, so George has noticed that the Science Discovery Museum building has been closed this summer for expansion and renovation. George asked his mom, “Mom, what are they doing at The Discovery Museums?!” She told him the museum was being rebuilt in a way that would make sure that all children could enjoy it. George said, “THAT is where I want to give my money.”

George is excited to know that when the new Discovery Museum opens in December, his gift will have helped make it a reality for all children.

Thanks to the generosity of the community, the museum is close to achieving its $8.4 million capital project goal to expand and completely renovate the museum and to make it fully accessible. A $50,000 donor challenge to raise $100 gifts in 100 days will run through mid-September. More information on the capital project and the Ready! Set! Build! campaign is available at www.discoverymuseums.org/build.
